on my solo trek through the animal kingdom

in a day in the life, disney adventures, favorite posts

Sometimes it’s real rough working for the mouse. Overall I truly, deeply love it, but all those early mornings and long hours can make the pixie dust lose some of its sparkle if ya know what I am saying. That is why we interns live for our days off. Because those glorious free days? Well, they help us fall in love with Disney more and more.

For my day off today I wanted to go on a solo trek through the Animal Kingdom because I am least familiar with this particular park and I have been in desperate need of some me time.

I’m always feeling real bad for that Animal Kingdom. A lot of people seem to say ‘meh’ to the Animal Kingdom. Not enough adventure for their tastes, they say. I ask you, what is that all about? The Animal Kingdom is made of adventure! There is so much waiting to be explored. Having only been to this particular park once before, I was crazy excited to finally discover all that this place had to offer.

As soon as the park opened I hurried off to Kilimanjaro Safaris. I have been dyyyyyying to go on a Disney safari and was looking forward to this the most. I’ll tell ya right now, it did not disappoint! Pro tip: if you want the best safari experience go as early as possible since that is when the animals are all the most active. I even saw lions of the non-sleeping variety (male and female!) which is the craziness because those suckers spend 20 hours of their day sleeping. Did you know that? I had no idea. Here are some of the things one might see on a Disney safari:

I highly recommend the safari. Couldn’t recommend it enough! I nearly cried a couple of times because I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my morning. Animals are just about as neat as it gets. I even did the safari twice because how could I not?

After a lot of thought on the matter, I also decided that Expedition Everest (aka the Yeti aka Matterhorn 2.0) might be my favorite ride in all the parks. It’s a fairly close race between that and Tower of Terror. I might conduct a more scientific assessment to settle the matter once and for all. I shall keep you updated of course.

The rest of my solo day looked a little something like this:

Overall I’d say going to the parks by myself wasn’t as uncomfortable as I thought it would be and I rather liked being in charge of my own agenda for the day. Although, what is this Florida rain?? I did feel most vulnerable when the rain started to pour because my emotions are always crazy attached to the weather. And the Festival of the Lion King was a little lonely without someone to clap and “awimbawe” with, but I did it anyway. I rather loved today.

ps. I’m tryin’ real hard to prevent my blog from turning in to a Disney all day erryday type of blog. I’ll find that middle ground soon enough I hope!
